You've likely heard by now that someone in the Air Force ordered Air Force One to buzz by lower Manhattan for a photo op with the Statue of Liberty. Apparently the police were told, but they neglected to tell Mayor Mike Bloomberg. And for some reason, the Air Force wanted to keep the flyby quiet, so the public was never notified. Gee - is it any wonder when folks who survived 9-11 saw a jumbo jet hurtling towards them, that they ran in panic? Check out this video -
The fact is, this was at best insensitive, and at worst, akin to shouting "FIRE" in a crowded movie house. People could have been trampled. And has anyone even considered how much it cost taxpayers to send a Boeing 747 up to New York for a photo op? The trip itself probably cost the government 50 grand.
Like I say... pretty dumbass, no matter how you cut it!

I was in the city yesterday and it was a colossal blunder. Of course, I was terrified along with everyone else until I heard the news that it was a photo op.
Hope you and the gang are well.
